Globally, the biggest humanitarian crisis UNHCR is facing is Syria, with the situation rapidly deteriorating. It is now expected that by the end of 2013, half of Syrias population will be in need of humanitarian assistance.
More than 8.3 million people are in need of assistance as a result of the crisis, representing about 38 percent of the countrys population. This includes more than 1.6 million Syrian refugees living in camps and among communities in neighbouring countries.
Australia for UNHCR will be raising money for the Syria Crisis Appeal at its annual World Refugee Day Breakfast on Thursday 20 June, to be held at The Westin Sydney. This event is open to the community, however it is essential to book tickets in advance.
