Friday, 08 May 2009 Ten employees from Natwest in High Street, Windermere, will take on the gruelling challenge of the Keswick to Barrow Walk
tomorrow. They will raise £250 for a host of local and national charities when they participate in the annual event, which began in 1966. Rebecca Watts, customer services officer at the branch, said: “At Natwest Windermere we like to play our part in supporting local charities and in being part of the community, so taking part in the Keswick to Barrow Walk seemed a great way of doing both.†Teams of six to 12 people will today be making final preparations for tomorrow’s challenge, which dwarfs a marathon by almost 14 miles. All the signs point to a record year for fundraising after 100 teams signed up to the event within six hours of its application site going live on the internet. Last year, 2,400 people applied to participate but the number that actually took part was just over 2,000. The walk raised £206,000 for charity last year when Gift Aid allowances were added.
