Bays Run Gift Thrills Hearing House 2009: Drive Time

Bays run gift thrills Hearing House

DRIVE TIME: KIA’s Andre Flavell, centre, presents the car to Naomi Gibson, Estelle Barlow, Scott Johnston and Tara Young from Hearing House.
Hearing-impaired children will get the home therapy visits they need thanks to the Auckland Joggers Club. The joggers are partners in the HSBC Round the Bays event and every year countless members volunteer to do everything from man the finish line to looking after lost children. But the group, which meets every week in Cornwall Park, also suggests suitable recipients for the funds raised and this year member Carole Young was keen to see Hearing House supported. The charity, based in Campbell Rd at the back of the park, works with children suffering hearing difficulties but its home therapy visits were in danger because vehicle running costs were excessive. The joggers stepped into the breach and Greenlane KIA, just around the corner in Great South Rd, came up with a deal that saw Hearing House take possession of a near new Rio car. The donation means therapists will continue to visit rural schools and take their home audiology services as far afield as Rotorua, Tauranga and Hamilton.
Hearing House director Scott Johnston was amazed.
