Share: A big NHL name &mdash as in six-foot-three and 235 pounds &mdash has been added to the London Knights lineup for Saturday night’s
Euro Can Cup game against Munich.
Todd Bertuzzi, the veteran NHLer who recently signed with Detroit, is driving to London from his Kitchener home for tonight’s game &mdash and possibly Monday night’s tournament final.
“Putting Todd Bertuzzi on the ice is an incredible addition,” said Pat Curcio, who organized the tournament that features three European squads and a team featuring Knights alumni and other NHLers.
“It just could be the icing on the cake for us.”
The big winger was told about the Euro Can Cup by one-time Calgary teammates Brandon Prust and Eric Nystrom, both of whom are already playing here, and they likely helped attract Bertuzzi, Curcio said.
Bertuzzi was embroiled in controversy when, as a member of the Vancouver Canucks in 2004, he punched Colorado forward Steve Moore, effectively ending Moore’s career. Since then, Bertuzzi has played for Florida, Detroit, Anaheim and Calgary.
He recently signed a one-year deal with the Red Wings this summer.
