Big Brother winner to join sumo run

2:47pm Wednesday 20th May 2009 Pete Bennett, winner of Big Brother 7 and arguably one of the show’s most vibrant contestants ever, will be
donning an inflatable sumo suit to help raise money for charity. The brand new fundraising event organised by educational charity Gemin-i.org will take place on 20th June 2009 in Battersea Park, London Participants dress in a sumo suit and run 5km and, by doing so, stand the chance of being part of the event’s attempt to break the world record for the largest gathering of people in a sumo suit. Commenting on his participation, Pete Bennett said: “When I heard about the event I thought it sounded like a load of fun. The charity is doing lots of great stuff for people around the world using technology and as I’m someone with Tourettes Syndrome, I felt particularly close to a project Gemin-i.org have done called “Diverse Links” which has enabled students to explore the issues of diversity, social exclusion and discrimination within their own community. I’ll be there on the day and wearing the inflatable sumo suit, running all of the 5km. I can’t wait!” As fun as inflation may be, there is also a clear philanthropic element to the event. All money raised goes directly to UK-based Gemin-i.org, a charity which believes in the power of ICT and communication to educate and unite people around the globe.
