Big Coffee Morning Plan To Help Raise Cash To Fight Cancer 2009: Involved Midlanders

Big coffee morning plan to help raise cash to fight cancer

Get involved MIDLANDERS are being urged to brew up a storm and get behind the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning later this month.
The event, which takes place on September 25, will see thousands of people from across the country with their coffee cups at the ready in aid of the charity Macmillan Cancer Support. Last year’s event saw more than 45,000 people attend coffee mornings nationwide to raise more than &pound7.5 million for the charity, which provides practical, medical, emotional and financial support to those affected by cancer. Regional organisers are urging as many people as possible to take part and make every cup count by inviting friends, family and work colleagues to get together for a cuppa and some tasty treats. Events have already been planned across the region, and joining the joining the charity’s Birmingham fund-raising team this year is 25-year-old Jenny Sedgwick from Sutton Coldfield. Former John Wilmott School Jenny said she got involved with the charity in recognition of the help they gave her grandfather Herbert Finnegan when he became ill with stomach cancer 16 years ago. She said: “Even though it was 16 years ago and my grandad passed away last summer, it has always stuck with me the help that my grandad was given.
“I think we do forget that people do have to live through cancer and that is the side that Macmillan helps people with.”
