Brave Womanrsquos Charity Swim In Sharkinfested Waters 2009: High Blantyre

Brave womanrsquos charity swim in sharkinfested waters

HIGH BLANTYRE woman Karen Tait isn’t the sort to get up to anything fishy.
But when the 48-year-old had the chance to swim with sharks for charity, she jumped right in. Karen &ndash whose father, Jim (75), suffered from cancer 14 years ago &ndash took part in the underwater adventure for the Anthony Nolan Trust and raised &pound425 for their leukaemia fund. On her dive at Deep Sea World in North Queensferry she swam with sand tiger sharks, octopuses and giant starfish. Karen, a self-employed diversional therapist, explained she wasn’t nervous at the prospect of swimming with the dangerous sharks as it was for a good cause. She said:“I was excited about doing it and I didn’t want to get worried because it’s something I’ve wanted to do all my life. “Once I got in the water I was fine. It really was an unforgettable experience.”
The former Blantyre High pupil found out about the dive through an Anthony Nolan advert, appealing for divers, in the Hamilton Advertiser last year.
