Carlisle Dad To Run Marathon In Memory Of His Son 2009: Monday 16

Carlisle dad to run marathon in memory of his son

Monday, 16 February 2009 It is just over a year since Craig and Cathy Harrod lost their seven-month-old son following a short illness.
It has been a difficult 12 months for the family, who are still coming to terms with his death, but they now feel it is time to do something positive in memory of Finn. The couple, who have two daughters – Tiegan, six, and three-year-old Darcey – wanted to do something that would help other families. That is why Craig, of Newby Cross, west of Carlisle, has dusted off his running shoes and signed up to take part in the London Marathon in April. He will be joined by his friend Ian Tomlinson, from London. They hope to raise as much money as possible for the Sick Children’s Trust. Mr Harrod, who turns 40 tomorrow, said Finn was a healthy baby when born but fell ill in December 2007 and was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary.
He was diagnosed with an intussusception – a blockage of the bowel – and immediately transferred to the intensive care unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
