The success of Christy Maye and Tom Duffy’s “Disc a Go Go” has ensured two well deserving charities will benefit to the tune of
over &euro10,000 each. Held in the Greville Arms in March, Christy Maye’s “Disc a Go Go” charity night attracted veteran and new disco fans from around the Midlands and beyond. Monies raised at the event will be donated directly to the North Westmeath Hospice and the Father Liam Hayes Argentinian Orphanage. Organiser Tom Duffy said the charity night was the most successful he had ever run. He would not confirm whether the event would become an annual fixture for Mullingar but said he wouldn’t rule out a possible repeat. “The atmosphere on the night was electric. We rolled back the years for people bringing back many memories for everybody with hits from ABBA, Rolling Stones, Showwaddy, Status Quo, Van Morrison, Queen, Culture Club but the man that stole the show on the night was our very own Joe Dolan, Christy played many of Joe’s hits with ‘Goodbye Venice’ bringing back many happy memories for people.” Not only did the night deliver on the entertainment stakes, the reward for two worthwhile charities was equally impressive. “The charity night was a huge success. We are delighted to announce that we raised &euro20,458.37 on the night. This sum was divided equally between the two charities, the North Westmeath Hospice and St Teresa Obera support Fund [Father Liam Hayes Argentinian Orphange for abandoned children and adults with disabilities],” said Mr. Duffy.
Entertainment on the night was provided by, DJ’s Gerry Duffy, Kevin Matthews, Tom Duffy and the main attraction ‘Chisty Maye Disc a Go Go’.The music was all from 1960s ,70s and 80s.
