Charity Event To Help Beaten South Croydon Footballer Pay Medical 2009: Charity Event

Charity event to help beaten South Croydon footballer pay medical

A charity event is being held at the weekend in aid of South Croydon footballer Rob Hughes.
The 28-year-old made a miraculous comeback after being beaten into a coma and left for dead while on holiday in Greece last year. Rob has now signed with Conference South side Welling United, more than a year after vicious thugs almost ended his playing career for good. The former Croydon Athletic midfielder was bottled and stamped on last June, and needed life-saving surgery. On Sunday a five-a-side football contest will take place at the Goals Soccer Centre in London Road, North Cheam. Cash raised from the day will help pay for Rob’s medical bills and also support his mum Maggie’s, Please Enjoy Don’t Destroy campaign, which lobbies the government to provide better support for UK victims of violent crime aborad. There will be a raffle, with prizes including signed merchandise from Chelsea, Fulham, Crystal Palace, AFC Wimbledon, Sutton United and Carshalton football clubs.
The event starts at 1pm, and teams can book their place by calling 020 86441333.
