Charity Golf Season Gears Up 2009: Tim Hortons

Charity golf season gears up

The Tim Hortons Charity Golf Tour, presented by our sister paper The Barrie Examiner, will feature 24 events in 2009 with the opening fundraiser
slated for the Innisbrook Golf & Country Club on Monday, May 11 in support of the Parkinson’s charity. “The people who tend to participate really love golf, so they get to play a great round of golf while supporting a worthy cause,” said Michelle Kennedy, the Examiner’s promotions manager. The tour’s official launch tournament will be the Georgian College Classic on May 11. The event was held last year at Hawk Ridge Golf and Country Club, but has moved to The Club at Bond Head this year. Last year, the tour saw more than 3,500 golfers raise over $430,000 for area charities. Orillia and area golf facilities will be hosting three of the events. The first one will be in support of Big Brothers/Big Sisters at Horseshoe Resort on Wednesday, June “Everyone has been touched in some way by cancer so we turn over the entire course and facilities for the entire day at no cost to Gilda’s Club,” said May. The tour runs from May to September, with all the proceeds from the events going back to the specified charities.
