Charles Dickens’ Desk Takes 430K in Charity Auction

Charles Dickens desk and chair took in a massive 430K in funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital, by charity auction last week.

The lot was priced at under a tenth of that amount.

The mid-19th Century mahogany desk and walnut chair were used by Dickens when writing Great Expectations and some of his later works.

Jeanne-Marie Dickens (widow of the writers late great-great grandson Christopher) donated the items to auction for the charity, Great Ormond Street Charles Dickens was a friend of the founder and spoke at its first ever fundraising dinner in 1858.
