Ty Detmer is spending his retired years from the NFL in Texas on his ranch hunting and fishing. Ty does keep a close eye on his former college team BYU. I sat down with Ty on SportsBeat Saturday and we talked about the position current BYU quarterback Max Hall is in right now. It is a similar position Ty was in entering his senior year in 1991. Ty had a great junior season where he won the Heisman then had a difficult time in the final two games of that season. Max had a great season but also struggled in his final two games of last year. Ty went on to have a great senior season and he thinks Max will do the same. We also talked about Ty’s relationship with Brett Favre, who just came of retirement to sign with the Minnesota Vikings. Ty and Favre had a hunting trip planned but now that is put on hold since Favre is back in football. Ty is also giving back. He is holding a charity trap shooting event to raise money for former Cougar players, coaches and trainers. This year it will be held Friday September 18th and money will help former BYU trainer George Curtis. The shoot will be held at Wasatch Wing and Clay near Lehi, and a dinner at the new clubhouse at Sleepy Ridge Golf Club.
