HAVING pulled up short of winning the British and Commonwealth cruiserweight crowns, Sunderland’s David Dolan hasn’t taken too much time in resuming his title
chase. He’s been nominated for the vacant English championship belt and is due to meet John Keeton before the end of June. The Boxing Board have put out the fight to purse offers which must be lodged by March 11. Dolan, who began his pro career as a heavyweight and reached the final of the first Prizefighter competition in London, was beaten on points by Rob Norton for the British and Commonwealth titles recently. Dolan decked Norton no fewer than three times but went down twice himself in an explosive encounter. The Sunderland scrapper first gained national recognition as an amateur when he took a Commonwealth Games gold medal in Manchester. UNBEATEN world champion Joe Calzaghe, safely retired after a glittering 46-win career, is coming to Newcastle next month for a charity dinner, and a further limited number of tickets are being released.
One hundred tickets at £30 each, which doesn’t include the meal, of course, are going on sale for the show at the Civic Centre on Thursday, March 5.
