Dress Up And Join Festival Of Fundraising For Heroes 2009: Don Fancy

Dress up and join festival of fundraising for heroes

DON your best fancy dress and head down to the Falstaff for a charity night in aid of Help for Heroes.
The event, which takes place on Saturday, May 16 at 7.30pm, will see the King Street pub transformed into a festival of fundraising, featuring a buffet, auction, disco and optional fancy dress. All the proceeds raised will go to Help for Heroes, a charity which offers practical, direct support for those wounded in the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Alistair Cribb, one of the organisers, said: “Help for Heroes is a fantastic charity, it’s non political and it’s just for the people who have been injured in the war. The event is going to be a general get-together, a bit of a knees-up to raise money for this good cause.” Alistair first began fundraising for Help for Heroes after his brother Nigel served in Afghanistan with the Royal Marines. He said: “My brother got me into it by selling me a car sticker! I looked it up on the internet and it went from there. I’m doing a 350-mile bike ride from Portsmouth to Paris with my brother-in-law at the end of the month.” Local businesses have stepped in to support the charity night, such as Party Party on Bispham Road, which will give 20% of all takings on fancy dress items hired for the event to the charity.
Adrian Davies, landlord at the Falstaff, said: “This is something very close to people’s hearts, locally. The night is a fun way to raise money for a great cause.”
