CHAPEL HILL – Eastern Randolph’s Christian Crifasi has been a perennial competitor in state championship meets in distance events for most of his high
school career. He has earned berths in the Class 3-A outdoor track and field meet three times, run in the Class 3-A cross country championship twice and been in the indoor track and field championship once prior to Saturday. While he has picked up a handful of top-5 finishes during his career, the senior had yet to grab state gold until posting a victory in the 1,000 meters in Saturday’s Class 1-A/2-A/3-A championship. I’m happy about that,” Crifasi said. Crifasi was disappointed in his performance in the cross country season, citing his part-time job as well as the task of organizing a 5-kilometer race which raised more than $600 for charity as part of a senior project, as reasons his running suffered. Everybody has a bad season, things come up, I’m not going to let that get me down for track season,” Crifasi said. It had only been in the last month that I’ve been practicing really hard and trying to make up for this bad season. I think I did it pretty well (Saturday).” A standout in the 800 and 1,600 in the outdoor season, Crifasi expects his first state title to give him a boost heading into the spring.
This will definitely push me and give me that confidence that I needed,” Crifasi said. I’m just ready to looking forward to … get ready for outdoor.”
