THIS year’s Evolution Festival will span two days for the first time.
The first acts for the 2009 event were revealed yesterday. The North East’s biggest music festival will see a host of top acts perform during the last May Bank Holiday weekend to an expected crowd of over 60,000 people across the two days in Newcastle and Gateshead. Headline acts across the weekend include Dizzee Rascal and The Wombats, with more acts to be announced. Once again, organisers of Evolution have spotted up and coming talent early with other acts confirmed including many of the music industry’s hotly tipped stars for 2009 &ndash White Lies, Little Boots, VV Brown, Ladyhawke, Florence and the Machine and Friendly Fires. The rich regional unsigned talent is also represented on the bill with appearances from The Chapman Family and Viva City. Further acts playing the festival are to be announced over the coming weeks as well as news on a number of festival ‘fringe’ events and indoor performances which will take place from May 22 up until the May Bank Holiday finale. Day tickets priced at £9.50 (+booking fee) go on sale on Thursday March 12 at 9am. Day tickets will be available online, from city centre HMV stores and from usual local outlets.
