Little Italy in downtown features samples from their best restaurants during the summer.
From 5 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, Taste of Little Italy offers samples of the district’s dining delights as guests stroll past local entertainment. A “passport” will allow visitors to pamper their palettes with a tasting that includes everything from appetizers and main courses to specialty drinks and desserts. Participating restaurants include Buon Appetito, Illume Bistro, Just Burgers and Lounge, Spicy Pickle, Yogurtland and many more, so stamp your “passport” as you divulge in their select menu samples. Because this event only comes around once a year, the season pass — 22 days for $22 — might be your best bet. Season passes are available for purchase until June 11. Enjoy a cold, refreshing beer in the Samuel Adams Beer Tasting Garden where one sample of the family’s fine beers is included in the ticket price. The Japan Society of San Diego and Tijuana host the festival from 6 to 10 p.m. on June 25 at the San Diego Marriott Del Mar. Culinary experts on Japanese traditions contribute their talents to this charity event where they showcase their mastery of sushi art and knowledge of sake and various beers. This year’s festival has been designated the official host of the SushiMasters California Regional Competition. Presented by the California Rice Commission, the nationally acclaimed event features competitions between California’s top sushi chefs.
