Dozens of Chihuahuas converted a Sparks’ Bully’s into a puppy-lovers paradise on Saturday.
To some, it’s a laughing matter. After all, it is for charity. Even though donations are encouraged, registration is free.. So, it is understandable that some contestants know that they’re a long shot coming in. “I think (my dog) will freak out and not run at all,” said Andrea Morgan, from Petaluma, who is visiting her brother-in-law. “We can barely get her to run, but we just come out here and have a great time with everybody,” Carl Kelly said about his dog Nikki-Poo. “She’s the kind of dog that would go ‘you want me to do that” Val Springer said about her little Chihuahua. Ultimately, it is still a competition. And the winner takes home $500 30 pounds of dog food and a case of beer. With that much on the line, you are bound to have some trash talking. “He’s fast,” Steve Hanson said about his Chihuahua. “He’s young. He’s a real stud. He’s gonna win because he can outrun all these other Chihuahuas.”
Deep down, everybody wants to be a winner, but the experts say if you want to have your day in the sun, you better practice. And you would not believe just how far some people are willing to go, in order to make sure that their dog is the most prepared.
