Get involved CROWDS gathered to watch Falklands veteran Simon Weston open The Royal Star & Garter Charity’s summer fête at its Solihull home.
The community event celebrated the home’s first birthday, marking a year since its disabled ex-service residents first began arriving. After cutting the ribbon and thanking the public for making the charity so welcome in the borough, Simon toured the stalls and met residents and staff. He was greeted with a particularly enthusiastic reception from the 4th Knowle Sea Scouts and Solihull Fire Station’s White Watch, who had brought along their fire engine. Entertainment was provided by the AD Band, a community wind group with over 60 members of all ages, who performed military marches and popular tunes.
