Families Out And About To Enjoy Weekend Fun 2009: Involved It

Families out and about to enjoy weekend fun

Get involved IT was fun, fun, fun for families at a host of events over the weekend.
At a Newcastle shopping centre, dance-mad youngsters got into the groove to show off their talents. “They are a huge hit with shoppers, who love to be entertained by their fabulous routines.” Elsewhere, Gateshead Thunder fans stepped out in the name of charity. Everyone who took part in the Sunshine Fund event was given free entry to the game. The fund, which is the Chronicle’s charity, raises cash for needy children. Thousands of people turned out on Saturday to watch the 17th annual Alnmouth Raft Race, in Northumberland. Crowds lined the banks of the River Aln to watch 30 adult and 15 junior teams paddle home-made vessels of all shapes and sizes down the half-mile course from the Duchess’s Bridge to the river estuary.
Teams dressed up as pirates, doctors and other characters to take part in the event and raise funds for the RNLI lifeboat station at Amble.
