Get involved MEET the remarkable Lilleys, who put the family fun into fund-raising.
The Birmingham family have, between them, raised more than £10,000 for charity, by running, cycling, swimming and climbing more than 1,500 miles. And that’s just their major charity projects, not even counting all the raffles, parties and coffee mornings. Now their community spirit could see them crowned the UK’s Family of the Year today. Social worker Kate said she had always encouraged her children, teachers Richard, 25, and 23-year-old Sarah, to become involved in fund-raising. Her husband, software engineer Graham, 55, is their support during major challenges such as cycling the length of the UK. Even Kate’s 85-year-old mother, Cath, cheers the family on from her wheelchair.
“It’s just something we do, we don’t think about it being anything special or different. Fund-raising can be such fun. Sarah and I have always done the women-only 5km Race For Life since it started in Birmingham in 1995.
