THE success of this year’s fireman’s fete has been tainted by vandals who have left hard-working firefighters infuriated by ripping their advertising banners to
pieces. The summer event is a firm favourite in the local calendar and last week, hundreds flocked to the fire station in Peaks Lane, Grimsby, to take part in the fun and games on offer. The fete is held in aid of The Firefighters Charity, which helps injured firefighters and families of those who have lost their lives. Last year’s fete raised a massive £8,000 for the cause. But repeated vandalism has put a dampener on the traditional fun-filled proceedings. Nigel Smith, crew manager at the Peaks Lane station and event organiser, said: “The fete obviously takes a lot of time for us to organise. “We put a lot of money into it, particularly into the advertising.
“Things like this are devastating, especially when we put so much effort into it.
