Get involved THE importance of how proposed legislation can affect fisheries has resulted in the Environment Agency encouraging all anglers nationally to have their
say on proposals that will affect the way they fish. The NE event will be held at Leeds City Hilton Hotel, on Saturday, September 5, between 9am and 1pm. Proposed laws, including proposals to regulate limits of coarse fish removal, are being consulted on nationally until the September 14, and the event will feed back local views to the proposals. Anglers have seen large carp make the news with the QE2 Reservoir in Ashington yielding fish to 17lb 2oz, while a carp of 22lb was caught from Killingworth where perch tend to make up the bulk of catches at present. However, the most notable carp catch recently was a splendid 23lb mirror taken from Four in One AC’s Thornbrough fishery. It’s been another good week at Whittle Dene with great catches being reported from the Lower and the Northern. Vince Dack caught skimmers and roach for a total weight of 15lb, while Nigel Beardsley netted 14lb of roach. Phil Hoult caught 9lb of skimmers and roach from the Lower. Some stunning catches have been recorded on the Angel’s Lookout Lake, and Margaret Jones had a terriffic day fishing Bowes, taking 65 fish in a seesion, the best a 20lb 2oz carp. Bassetts has produced some stunning fish this week such as ide to 3lb 1oz, carp over 10lb, crucians to 2lb 3oz, and roach to 2lb 1oz.
The last Sunderland FAC evening match of the series on Silksworth saw Kevin Ducton land a couple of decent skimmers to win from John Stephenson, who had 4lb 1oz. On Saturday, a good turnout from Big Waters Juniors at Dissington saw youngsters catching roach and ide from the off. Top junior on the day, Seadna Finnegan won with 7lb 6oz including a bonus tench of 3lb. John Foster won Sunday’s Open on Lookout Lake using pellets and paste to land 51lb 3oz. Chris Owers won the Friday Afternoon match with 56lb 12oz after topping the field on Wednesday with 72lb 13oz.
