Last month Gatto held a $1000-a-head charity dinner in Docklands that raised $896,825 for a bushfire appeal.
Gatto said the idea for the fund-raiser arose at a barbecue with some friends. He said 100 per cent of the money raised has been donated. “Our event has given 100 per cent of our charity to the CFA. Not like all these other charities that take 80 per cent in administration fees. All of our (money) has gone ahead.” He also said: “I’m proud to give our cheque”. “I’d like to thank those people who were involved. “I understand this started from a barbecue and just snowballed from there. And this is the best snowball I’ve seen for a long time. $900,000 is just fantastic.”
