Golf season heats up in Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA Now that spring has arrived in full swing, so, too, have area golfers.
Courses all over the city have already begun hosting events, and now through early fall, area golfers will have plenty of opportunities to show off their game and compete for titles or just go out with friends and have fun playing a round while helping raise money for local charities. ‘We do 35,000 rounds a year, and most of that is from March through October,’ said John Gray, Head Golf Professional at the City of Tuscaloosa’s Ol’ Colony Golf Complex. ‘These events are extremely important to the community because most of them are charity events.’ Some local courses, like Indian Hills, have already held their public events but still have on tap upcoming member events. Most of the other clubs and golf courses are just beginning to get busy. Here’s a list of what’s coming up. To participate in or find out more information about any of these tournaments, or other tournaments that may be added, give the course pro shops a call. On May 30 Hidden Meadows will host the Men’s Golf Association Four-Man Scramble. It will also host fundraising events for local churches and charities. The Capstone Club of Alabama, which has recently undergone new ownership, is open for play with new golf PGA professional Jason Hofius. As of now no tournaments are scheduled but it will host a juniors program this summer. Hofius says the club’s website, , will list information about the program soon, or just call the club. NorthRiver’s next major event is this week’s Alabama State 4-Ball tournament, which starts Wednesday. On May 15 it will host the Mal Moore Charity Golf Tournament benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama, and on July 10 it will help raise money for the Boy Scouts with the annual Tenderfoot Classic.
The Country Club of Tuscaloosa will host the Ladies Invitational on May 2, the Stillman Athletics tournament on May 29, the Bill Burton 4-Ball on July 18-19 and the September 24 Adopt-A-School tournament.
