Since first coming into existence a century ago, Good Shepherd Medical Center-Marshall has been a staple in the community, working hard to ensure residents
are provided excellent and affordable care. The kick off for the event will be 3 to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 27 in the hospital lobby, with the Century Celebration 1909 to 2009: Race To Wellness Texas Style theme. Peach cobbler will be served and Grady Lee will perform. The foundation will then host a benefit to raise funds for the Marshall Hospital Foundation Sept. 24. Gayle Weinberg, Marshall Hospital foundation director, says the money collected will go directly to diagnostic equipment. The hospital will also recognize current and retired doctors. This event will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Marshall Grand. “We’ve been celebrating our birthday all year,” said Ms. Weinberg, noting her affinity for studying up on past events pertaining to the storied Marshall hospital. “We’ve have had a number of events this year.” History For 100 years: through several name changes: the hospital has stood in the same spot since its inception in 1909.
The hospital got its start in the early 20th century, when a local physician, Dr. J.H. Pope, began treating sick patients at his home.
