The whole “NASCAR drivers are close to their fans” bit has been pretty overplayed, but that doesn’t mean it’s not still true.
Most drivers manage to take at least a smidge of time during the season to get up close and personal with a chunk of their fanbase, and what I find very cool is how many of them stay in touch with the tracks where they first learned to race. I would’ve loved to see more on-race action from the local dudes getting their chance to race against NASCAR’s finest … or the moments when Denny knocked around some bully who’d put him into the wall ten years ago. Ah, well. We can imagine. Aside: my mom was one of the 5,500 in attendance, in what was her very first NASCAR race. Hope you enjoyed it, Mom! Love you! (But I still have to get her a Mother’s Day gift, right) 1 – 1 of 1 1 – 1 of 1 Posted May 6 2009
