A TORQUAY head teacher is taking the school run to a whole new level by participating in this year’s Great North Run.
Mark Shaw (right), head at Queensway Catholic Primary School, is taking part in the event to raise money for the aid agency Cafod. He is part of a 300-strong Cafod team, and will tackle the gruelling 13-mile route from Newcastle to South Shields on September 20 in what is said to be the world’s biggest half-marathon. He said: “As a teacher I’ve been inspired by Cafod’s work for many years. “The resources the charity provides to schools has allowed pupils to gain a greater understanding of the world, as well as an opportunity to show their compassion and solidarity with those less fortunate. “As well as giving vital funds to keep this work going, I wanted to set myself a personal challenge too. “It’s important to remember that one day of your life really can make a lasting difference to people in desperate need.
“I’m really looking forward to the race, and the pupils, parents, staff and friends have been very supportive.
