Heavyweight Fundraiser To Hit Winsford Lifestyle Centre 2009: The Cop

Heavyweight fundraiser to hit Winsford Lifestyle Centre

THE top cop in Winsford wants to round up amateur boxers to pack a punch at a fundraising fight night later this year.
Insp Dave Snasdell, head of the town’s Neighbourhood Policing Unit, is resurrecting the charity event which proved popular in the 90s, with the new Lifestyle Centre at The Drumber set to host the evening on Friday, October 16. “The purpose of the event is to raise money for local charities, including St Luke’s Hospice and The Joshua Tree, and Winsford Boxing Club, which needs funds to refurbish their premises,” said Insp Snasdell. “Winsford police held many of these fundraising events in the 90s and I believe bringing them back to the town will inspire others within the community to get involved and raise money for local charities.” The event will see around 12 bouts, for both junior and senior fighters from across Vale Royal and the North West. There will be comp&egravere and a comedian to entertain the audience after a three-course meal. A silent auction of sporting memorabilia and raffle will also be held. Insp Snasdell said: “We are looking for anyone, especially children and teenagers who aspire to be the next Ricky Hatton, to get trained up over the next few months. “Police and the boxing club will help anyone who wants to take part to get trained to be competent enough to fight on the night.
“We are offering local youngsters the chance to focus on this and achieve some personal goals. Even if they do not come up to the standard to perform they will develop their skills and confidence by the training they receive.
