IN PICTURES Weekend Highlights 2009: Roundup Photos

IN PICTURES Weekend highlights

of Here is a round-up of photos from this weekend’s events: 1.
Cool and crisp conditions greeted runners as they limbered up on the start line of the inaugural Heart UK running race at Dorney Lake on Sunday morning. The event, organised by the charity Heart UK and SBR Sports, attracted nearly 300 fun and more serious runners to the banks of the impressive 2,200 metre rowing lake, in a bid to raise money for the cholesterol charity. 2. Compassionate teenagers went without home comforts at the weekend as they slept rough on the concrete streets of Slough. The 14 teenagers from Slough Baptist Church were taking part in a 48 hour charity challenge, which aimed to recreate the experience of slum dwellers across the world. 3. Caring conservationists planted trees in a Britwell beauty spot on Saturday morning in a bid to stop it being bulldozed off the map. Members of the Evergreen 2000 Trust planted up to 500 Hawthorn trees on the Slough Borough Council owned land which is under threat from development. 4. What better way to enjoy St Valentine’s day than with a pint of one of Berkshire’s finest ales in the mid-afternoon sunshine That was the delight enjoyed by thirsty members of CAMRA – The Campaign for Real Ale – on Saturday who launched pub crawl with a visit to the Bell Pub in Waltham St Lawrence. Branch members are promoting the Reading Beer and Cider Festival and intend to slake their thirst in 24 of the region’s best known public houses before the event starts at the end of March. 5. Easy-riders donned their leathers and helped raise money for charity by taking part in a gentle ride through the undulating hills of the Chilterns on Sunday. Around a dozen helmet clad bikers congregated at the Triumph Dealership in London Road, Twyford for the ride in aid of the British Heart Foundation.
