Once again, the weather on Tuesday, May 4, canceled both the nine- and 18-hole women’s golf.
It certainly makes it harder to write this column when that happens. Men’s golf on Thursdays does not seem to suffer the same fate. Course superintendent Harlyn Goldman has reduced the price of many items of clothing by 50 percent through May 31. There is still ample time to sign up for the first BOGG scramble on Sunday, May 17. It will be a 3:30 shotgun start. The entry fee includes nine holes of golf, cart, bag gratuity, prizes and supper in Tern Grill. Applications are available in the pro shop. The deadline for registration is May 15. Earle Moore and his committee continue their hard work for the NKF Delmarva premier amateur golf event for charity to be held at Ocean Pines Golf and Country Club on June 9. Mr. Moore reports that it is going well, but they still need a few more teams. For a fun-filled day of golf with a chance to benefit a very worthwhile organization, sign up now. Don’t forget that the local first and second place winners proceed to the finals at the famous Pebble Beach golf course. Entries will be accepted until May 16. The tournament will take place Friday, May 29, at OPG&CC. Six scholarships will be awarded to deserving students from the Delmarva area. Registration forms are available at the pro shop or can be downloaded from . The newest OPG&CC tournament is about to begin. The stroke play championship will run from June 1 through July 31. Since there are no regular tournament costs associated with this event, almost all entry fee dollars will go into prize money. Based on 60 entrants, approximate payouts range from $350 for overall champion to $100 for second place in your flight. If you do not have a cart plan and play when carts are mandatory, you will have to pay for a cart. The entry fee is $35.
