April 23, 2009 Attendance at the Diamond Jaxx home opener on Monday night was 4,107 people, said Jason Compton, assistant general manager for the
team. The number of fans totaled the highest opening day attendance since April 6, 2000. “And it was our best Monday night since June 14, 2004,” Compton said, “when Sammy Sosa was in town (for rehab). That Monday there were 6,478.” The number in attendance at Monday’s game against the Tennessee Smokies was 400 less than the attendance of all of last season’s Monday night games combined. The Horizon convenience store and gas station on Ridgecrest Road Extended has reopened under new local ownership. Amer Al-Jafari and Mustafa Jabr have reopened the store that is west of Pringles Park. They were able to keep the Horizon name when they purchased the store from the company on April 1. The men officially opened the store and gas station on Sunday and hope to have a grand opening celebration on May 1, Al-Jafari said. He said the two men hope to open eight other convenience stores within the next two years.
Belk’s clothing store in the Old Hickory Mall will participate in the May 2 Belk’s Charity Sale, according to a news release from the company.
