At the Mullingar Chamber of Commerce Business Dinner and Awards, held at the Annebrook House Hotel, Mullingar. Local business personalities packed the main function room of the Annebrook House Hotel for an awards ceremony not short on good cheer, despite the overbearing cloud of an economic recession. In the two other awards presented on the night, St. Francis’ Private Hospital, Ballinderry Mullingar picked up the coveted Chamber Industry Award, while Mullingar businesswoman Frances Guckian received the Special Recognition Award for her work as chairperson of the Mullingar St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee. There were three nominees for the first award, Business Person of the Year: Julie Magan of Ilia: A Coffee Experience, Ilia Gourmet and Ilia Tapas and More Berty Dunne of the Annebrook House Hotel and Michael Corcoran, MD of the Mullingar-based Soltec Ireland Ltd. Also shortlisted for the award was Berty Dunne, proprietor of the 111-bedroom Annebrook House Hotel, which employs 75 people. The hotel was described as having a state of the art conference and banqueting facilities catering for up to 300 delegates with car parking facilities for up to 100 cars, and a choice of dining experiences including the Brook Restaurant, and The Brosna Bar. Michael Corcoran, MD of Soltec Ltd, was also shortlisted for the award. Soltec is an EPA Licensed hazardous waste collections company. Working For a Cleaner Environment Soltec (Ireland) Ltd. is also the only hazardous waste recycling company based in Ireland. Part of the Cortec group, Soltec was established in 1994 to specialise in the recovery of waste solvent, and employs 13 people.
