PANAMA CITY BEACH — Bella Rose Cook wore a giant pink cowboy hat and rode a stick horse named Daisy Two at the Gulf
Coast Charity Horse Show & Music Festival on Saturday. The 3-year-old Bella Rose said she loves “horses and pigs” and horse shows. Her dad, Britton Cook, said the family has been coming to the horse show for about three years. “It’s a top-notch event,” he said. While adults may reign most of the time, Saturday’s event had a kid-friendly atmosphere. Patronis Elementary School students kicked off the festivities with several songs and the National Anthem. They were followed by the stick riders. During the event a dozen or so pre-schoolers and their stick horses raced around the track, looking cute and giggling – a lot. “It’s just to let them get used to the track,” said Martha “Sister” Blackmon-Milligan, the founder of the horse show.
When they get older, many of these kids will be showing horsing and riding them at shows. There is nothing like the relationship a child can have with a horse, Milligan said, adding that it was enough to make her cry. Once the children get around the animals, they can’t help but fall in love, Milligan said.
