Lance Armstrong in action in the Tour of California on Sunday Lance Armstrong has confirmed he will compete in the Tour of Ireland in
August to promote his cancer charity. The Lance Armstrong Foundation have organised the first ‘Livestrong Global Cancer Summit’ from August 24 to 26 in Dublin, the day after the Texan completes the race. Armstrong, 37, has returned to racing four years after retiring with the aim of winning an eighth Tour de France this summer. He finished in seventh place at the Tour of California, which finished on Sunday. The summit in Ireland will bring together world leaders, corporations and non-governmental organisations to make a case for addressing the global cancer burden. Armstrong said: Unless we act on a global level, cancer will be the leading cause of death by 2010.
‘Our goal is to be the catalyst that brings everyone together to fight cancer – from survivors, like me, to world leaders and policymakers who must commit completely to the effort to avoid a public health catastrophe.
