Organisers yesterday gathered with nurses from the hospice to make the announcement in advance of the competition, which runs from June 17 to 21 in Calderstones Park. Marie Curie chief executive Tom Hughes said: “I’m delighted Northern Vision have chosen Marie Curie Cancer Care as the official charity for this year’s tournament, and for their kind offer to donate 30% of corporate tickets sales generated by Marie Curie connections and websites to our charity. “The funds raised from this event will help the Marie Curie Hospice, Liverpool, provide expert care, totally free, to people with cancer and other terminal illnesses on Merseyside.” Anders Borg, of Northern Vision and tournament director, said: “This is our eighth year in Liverpool and we believe we have put together an outstanding line-up of legends for the tournament, a real cosmopolitan mix of great players. They include: Mardy Fish, Robin Soderling, Michelle de Brito, Mats Wilander and Michael Stich.” If you prefer playing to watching, you could get involved in Marie Curie’s new tennis fundraiser, Anyone for Tennis, which is backed by Britain’s number one player Andy Murray and brother Jamie.
