SHERMAN OAKS, Calif.–()–Nancy Cartwright has become not only a star of the longest running scripted show in television history, “The Simpsons”, lending voice to
spikey-headed ten-year-old Bart, she has come to be known as one of the most generous philanthropists in show business. And she hasn’t forgotten her roots. A native of Kettering, Nancy created the Nancy Cartwright Artist Achievement Scholarship for high school seniors, to help with their college tuition at Ohio University. The scholarship, in its fourth year, has been a great help to students and now, with an additional infusion of $100,000, Nancy’s legacy will continue in perpetuity. Nancy will return home for the check presentation, which will take place on June 4, 2009 at her alma mater, Kettering’s Fairmont High School graduation ceremony. Consistent with her philanthropic and community-minded efforts, Nancy will also be participating in an event presented by Time Warner Cable at the Fraze Pavilion on Saturday, June 6. It is the 5th Annual Concert for Literacy benefiting Project READ, featuring Leroy Ellington & The E-Funk. Project READ is a home grown charity that Nancy has supported for several years. In addition to her efforts in Ohio, Nancy is very active in her community just outside of Los Angeles, where she serves as Honorary Mayor and is on the Board of the local Chamber of Commerce and on the Executive Board of PALS (Police Activities League Supporters). She has been instrumental in helping to raise the funds to build a center for at-risk youth. She also co-founded Happy House, a non-profit that strives to build better families, a cause very dear to her heart and for which she works diligently year-round. Nancy has received numerous awards and acknowledgments for her work, most recently the Change the World Public Service Award from the Hollywood Note Foundation.
