Maghull runner Catherine Johnson completes Reading marathon for

A RUNNER from Maghull was on the crest of a wave when she ran a half marathon for a maritime charity.
Catherine Johnson, originally from Maghull, raised nearly &pound1,000 for the Shipwrecked Fishermen and Mariners’ Royal Benevolent Society despite now living in landlocked Aylesbury. She ran Reading’s half marathon in honour of her seafaring family, and completed the course in less than three hours. Catherine’s grandfather, John Johnson Snr, spent most of his life aboard SS Moliere, later becoming chargehand engineer on the Dock Road. Both her father Douglas and uncle John also sailed from the docks and spent many years working on ships. Catherine said: “What the Shipwrecked Mariners do is fantastic and being able to be part of that is wonderful. “As I was running in my Shipwrecked Mariners t-shirt, it was great to hear people cheering me on and asking for more information about the charity.
“I’m glad I was able to spread the word about the good work it does and I’m now looking forward to trying the Liverpool half marathon next year.”
