The has already raised more than £3,000 for Charity:Water and the organisers say there’s still donations coming in tonight.
As you’ll see in the Qik video clip with organiser Katie Moffat below, that exceeds the initial expectation and just goes to prove the mobilising power of the social networking platform Twitter. Earlier this evening, a group of more than 100 Mancunians (many who had never met before) made their way to Living Room after finding out about and signing up for an event which simultaneously took place in 160 cities worldwide. The stated aim was to raise charity cash but, as with all such gatherings, it was just as importantly a chance to network with some of the city’s digerati, find out about some of the exciting social media projects about to be unleashed and have a bit of fun.
The money was raised from the ticket prices and the auction as well as donations. Lots of everything from train tickets to a bag of sex aids and condoms went under the hammer and the opportunity for someone to be an MEN journalist for the day fetched a whopping £160!
