“I really don’t have the words to say how special this is,” Krause said.
“When I look at the names of those who have come before me …” He is a 31-year member of the . He has spent the past 20 years at Wynlakes. Two years ago he was named PGA Golf ProfesÂsional of the Year. Krause has served on variÂous national boards and comÂmittees and has spent most of his professional career in Alabama. He started out in the golf business in Pottstown, Pa., and had stops in Macon and Marietta, Ga., before Anniston Country Club “took a chance on me as their 26-year-old head professional. … I was like a deer in the headlights.” He spent 11 years in AnnisÂton, before his move to work for Jim Wilson, the late owner and developer of Wynlakes. Through the years he has championed the need for PGA professionals to think outside the box of a traditional professional who might run his pro shop, give a few lessons and play some tournaments. “You might say I was ahead of the curve … a maverick of sorts. I saw the need for a new breed of golf professional who could run the entire club opÂeration.”
He has been general manÂager on two occasions, the second time beginning in 1999 and he continues in this role to this day. He is responÂsible for 150 employees it’s a long way from that deer in the headlights.
