Yesterday, students at Aucklands Media Design School had their classes cancelled – but it was all for charity and raising awareness of the plight of refugees.
The students were instead split into cross-disciplinary teams to come up with ways to increase awareness of the Auckland Refugee Community Coalition. By taking them away from their usual classes, environments and fellow students, the participants experienced in a tiny way what it feels like to be a refugee coming to a new place.
With over 750 refugees entering New Zealand each year, the media school students skipped class to offer innovative ideas for charity on how to help new New-Zealanders find their place in, and be integrated into, the Auckland community.
