ORGANISERS behind one of the city’s most popular fundraising events are revving up for their first charity ball.
The Plymouth Mega-Ride team has raised thousands of pounds for charity since the motorbike rally was first held 15 years ago. And now it is hoping to add to its annual fundraising total by holding a charity ball at the Plymouth Novotel this November. “I’ve had the idea for a charity ball for a few years,” said Mega-Ride organiser Helen McCrave. “At the ride we rush around all day and I just thought it would be really nice for everyone to dress up and have a good time.” The ball, which will be a formal affair with strictly no biker leathers, will include a two-course dinner, disco by DJ Chris Unwin of the Cider Press, and raffle. Prizes up for grabs include a two-night stay at Jury’s Inn hotel, for two people.
This year’s ride, which saw more than 8,000 bikers take to the roads, raised over £10,000 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Plymouth Heartbeat, a charity supporting cardiac patients.
