Miramichi Lifestyle show and Radio Station Donates to Hosptial

The April 24-26, 2009 Miramichi Lifestyle Show held at the Civic Centre, in partnership with 99.3 The River Radio, raised $1985 in support of
the Miramichi Regional Hospital Foundation’s campaign to purchase a stainer and cover slipper for the Histology Section of the Lab Department. Histology is the first place that testing takes place for any patient biopsies, from moles to limbs. Detection of cancer is the most common, and early detection is often the key to a cure. At the recently held Lifestyle Show, Sandy Mollins and staff of 99.3 The River Radio worked tirelessly to organize and manage a silent auction by collecting items and donating all proceeds raised to assist the cause. “Local businesses donated items of various sizes and interest to the silent auction, and we held the event from the Friday evening until closing Sunday afternoon. It was a great success and we appreciate the community’s assistance in providing items and bids,” said organizer Sandy Mollins, 99.3 The River Radio staff member. “We are pleased to be able to assist the Miramichi Regional Hospital Foundation in their efforts to provide enhanced health care to Miramichi and surrounding area patients.” “99.3 The River Radio are wonderful supporters of our efforts and we truly appreciate their efforts” said Joanne Sellars, Miramichi Regional Hospital Foundation Executive Director. “We also thank Master Promotions for selecting our charity. Their support assists us in our goal to provide local quality health care services.” The Miramichi Regional Hospital Foundation’s “Histology – A litte tissue. A big issue Campaign” is raising funds to purchase a $100,000 stainer / cover slipper for the Histology section of the Lab Department. Patient biopsies are sent to the histology lab for processing and the tissue ends up on a slide which must be stained and covered with a precisely measured coverslip that protects the specimen. The new equipment will assist staff to complete slide preparations in record time with assured accuracy and consistency. Patients will benefit by having faster, more efficient and more effective services.
