&mdash It’s not every day that you can find a group of teenage boys so eager to wear pink. The Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors are once again preparing to turn their rink pink in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The Majors will wear pink jerseys for Friday’s game against the Barrie Colts. The organization also had the ice at Hershey Centre painted pink for the game. “The unique thing about it is that it really brightens up the rink,” said Rick Radovski, the Majors vice-president of marketing and sales. “It makes the glass look pink. It just magnifies the brightness in the arena.” It’s the second straight year the Ontario Hockey League team has held the event. Over $15,000 was raised in 2008. Proceeds from ticket sales and in-arena donations are collected on behalf of the charity. The Majors also plan to auction off their pink jerseys through the team’s website. They were the first OHL club to run this kind of event and ended up starting a trend in the process. Erie, Saginaw, Plymouth and Belleville have since planned similar promotions.
“It was nice when the teams would call you and ask about it,” said Radovski. “That’s positive to hear that and at the same time, it’s more money for (charity).”
