The History of Jigsaw Puzzles

Did you know that the first jigsaw puzzle was made in the 1800s? It was created by cartographer John Spilsbury to teach students geography. Back then, jigsaw puzzles were called “dissected maps,” and it is because of this that puzzle enthusiasts are called dissectologists.

Celebrate National Puzzle Day with Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity

This January 29, honor the rich history of puzzles and join Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity as they celebrate National Puzzle Day. Call your fellow dissectologists and invite them out for a fun day of solving jigsaw puzzles and building community spirit. There will be jigsaw puzzles on sale, as well as refreshments and cake to keep everyone’s energy up. Proceeds from this event will go to Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity, which provides “vital critical medical care by land and air, across Wiltshire and Bath.”

National Puzzle Day is dedicated to the enjoyment and benefits of puzzles of all kinds. Our team love a Jigsaw Puzzle and we think many of you will too.

This day encourages individuals and communities to come together in the spirit of fun and collaboration.​

Opening the base for two slots, 10am-12.30pm and 1.30-4pm, for guests to join us to work on puzzles.​

With eight puzzle stations, and space for six people to collaborate on each.

We will also be selling jigsaw puzzles for £3 per 500-piece puzzle, £5 per 1000-piece. However, bring along one of your own that you’ve finished (no missing pieces please) and donate for £1 off your nexat puzzle.

There will also be refreshments and cake available throughout.

Because they’re a fun way to pass the time and they have great brain health benefits, jigsaw puzzles have always been popular.
