KUALA LUMPUR: The 1Malaysia concept is realisable if everyone fosters mutual respect, understanding and appreciation, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.
He said Malaysian society was made up of people of various ethnic, cultures and religions who had to be compassionate and understand one another. “It is truly an honour to witness this gathering of different cultures, religions and ethnicity in the art of giving, caring and sharing,’’ he said at the Caring and Sharing Programme at the Buddhist Maha Vihara here yesterday. “We have work together to extend a helping hand to eradicate poverty in the country.” The event, held in conjunction with Wesak Day celebrations, was attended by more than 1,000 people from various charity homes and organisations.
Ong, who is also MCA president, thanked the Sri Lankan government for donating three corneas to needy Malaysians.
