THE organiser of a charity football match is looking for a team – any team – to save the event.
City cable engineer Mark Smith spent nearly six months setting up the match at Parkway Sports and Social Club, scheduled for Sunday, May 3. He wants to raise at least £1,000 for SANDS (Stillbirth And Neonatal Death Society), who supported him and wife Karen after their baby Robert was stillborn last September. But the match has been put in jeopardy after the stars of the show – Plymouth Argyle Veterans – were forced to pull out. Smith said: “The veterans were overbooked, which is one of those things, but it’s now left us without a team to play against. “We were looking to raise £1,000, but I don’t think we’ll be able to do that now the veterans can’t make it. “We’re looking for a team, any team, of any standard, to play against just to keep the event going.
He added: “A lot of hard work has gone into the event – we’ve got all sorts of other attractions on the day for a real family event.
