16th February 2009 LOCAL charity ‘Our Kids’ has been announced as the recipient of the proceeds from the Country Energy Kite Record Attempt, the
big feature of this year’s over the weekend of March 21 and 22. “The Country Energy Kite Record Attempt in Brunswick Heads is a fantastic community event and Our Kids is very excited to be the charity chosen,†said Rebekka Battista, Our Kids fundraising co-ordinator. “Our Kids raises funds to purchase life-saving paediatric equipment for the hospitals in the Northern Rivers catchment, and this equipment helps the medical teams to care for children locally when needing medical care. “Over 40 per cent of the children who are seen by our local hospitals come from the coastal region and it’s very important when children need medical care that they are able to stay close to their home. Purchase of much-needed paediatric equipment will help keep our kids local.†The Kites and Bikes Festival provides a huge range of free wind and pedal power activities and free entertainment for kids and kids at heart and also for serious kite and bike enthusiasts. The big festival day is still on the Sunday and families are invited to pack the picnic, the kites and bikes and head off to Brunswick for an exciting but affordable eco-friendly family fun day out. For the kite record attempt, over 1127 participants will be required to break the Australian record and 1655 to break the world record, and school, sporting and community groups and individuals are encouraged to take part and support a great cause.
Entries opened on-line this week, and thanks to Country Energy’s support, the $10 entry fee will include a kite kit for the record attempt. The kits can be made up at home or at one of the workshops on the Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning.
