Bandar Seri Begawan – Members of the Darussalam Motorcycle Association (PEMODA) yesterday held a religious ceremony to mark the coming of the holy month
of Ramadhan with a tahlil and doa arwah ceremony held at the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien College’s Surau in the capital. Approximately 50 members of PEMODA along with teachers and staff of SOAS college made their way to SOAS ‘s small surau located in the middle of the college’s grounds. The event commenced with the Maghrib prayers (with the Doa Qunut Nazilah), followed by hajat prayers to evoke Allah’s protection against misfortune and diseases, especially from the Influenza A (H1 NI) virus. The event also saw the recital of the Yassin, a tahlil ceremony and doa arwah. The guest of honour during the ceremony was the Principal of Soas College, Pg Hj Zahri Pg Hj Ahmad. The aims of holding such religious ceremony according to the chairperson of the ceremony, Jifri Bin Hj Abd Rahman, were not only for remembrance of the dearly departed members of PEMODA and their family but also to hold a reception with the community in particular the staff and teachers of SOAS college. He also said that the decision to hold the event in SOAS College was an opportunity to collaborate with other members of the community, in particular the students and teachers of SOAS College. Meanwhile the principal of SOAS college, Pg Hj Zahari Pg Hj Ahmad, said that they were honoured that PEMODA had chosen SOAS college as the venue of their religious event, and added that not only was the religious event meaningful, but it also shows that a biker association such as PEMODA is not only part of the community on the whole, but the association also gives back to the community through its various community services and charity events. The event was the first time that PEMODA and SOAS college staff and teachers came together, providing opportunity for the two parties to exchange ideas and possibly work together again in the future. — Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
